Assemblymember Jared Huffman’s letter to DWR is wonderful. Bullshit like this is exactly why people in the Delta feel like they have to fight the Peripheral Canal itself, rather than work for good governing agreements. I hope we get to see DWR’s immediate response.
I don’t know what an agency does when the legislature sets new policy directions (co-equal!) but the governor wants water delivered. Hedge, I guess. Delay.

Exactly.
I know! But I’m actually for a well-governed Peripheral Canal, and crap like this makes it extremely hard to do. For canal proponents, this is not helpful.
Imagine if DWR had heard that its take permit was inadequate, and had anxiously wanted to fix it and get that right (or had never let it fall by the wayside in the first place). DWR would have such a different reputation now.
I don’t get it. As far as I can tell, the letter asks the DWR to explain why it has been challenging the EPA’s biological opinions regarding the Delta smelt, despite the fact that these opinions have already been revised once. How is that a bad thing?
Quanticle, I think that the “wonderful” thing is Huffman’s letter – fraught as his position is making up a big part of the wonderfulness. Good for Huffman, etc.
The “bullshit” thing is the feeble “patchwork” DWR explanation, trying to project a sense that the DWR is in control an out of control problem.
I think anyway.
